What is a diet pyramid anyway? Basically the diet pyramid encompasses the research-based food guidance system developed by Department of Nutrition, Ministry of Health or Department of Agriculture. You can use a diet pyramid (or food pyramid) to create a healthy eating plan. The pyramid is flexible enough for everyone to use. When using a pyramid though, it is important to keep in mind that you should use one that is based on the latest and best science.
It is based on the latest science, and it is not affected by businesses and organizations with a stake in its messages. That’s why the Health Eating Pyramid is a simple, trustworthy guide to choosing a healthy diet. “Its foundation is daily exercise and weight control, since these two related elements strongly influence your chances of staying healthy. The Healthy Eating Pyramid builds from there, showing that you should eat more foods from the bottom part of the pyramid (vegetables, whole grains) and less from the top (red meat, refined grains, drinks with sugar.” (quoted from the Harward.edu website).
